- Unreleased state: A Katana that stands nearly as tall as Mai does. It has a black-wrapped handle and a silver coloured tsubasa. The entire blade is black, with the same silver colour along it's cutting edge.

- Shikai State: The Sword stays the same length, but it loses it's hand-guard, and turns in to a thick-bladed scimitar shape. . The hand wrapping is white, with a long trailing tail. The thick-bladed, single edged weapon is still all black with a silver cutting edge.

Kaneko, a 4' 8" girl with black hair, is practicing her basic attacks in the 7th Division training hall. Everything felt so unfamiliar to her still... Just as she had gotten used to the academy, her training there ended. The only thing she keeps different about her Shinigami uniform, is a silver scarf, with purple trimming along it's outside edges, around her neck. It's tails trail down infront of her chest. The sword she practices with is just as tall as its wielder.

Matis, a simple member of the 7th Division holds his bokken in front of himself with two hands, lifting it above his head and bringing it back down in a series of careful straight cutting motions.

He was an average young man, from build to height; the sleeves of his uniform have been torn off and his forearms have black bandages wrapped around them.
His shoulder-length blue hair is the only thing that could really identify from a crowd, but even then, only if one were really looking for him.

Matis had been with the 7th Division for about a year or two, he couldn't really remember which, though he was adamant in saying that he had been there for a while now.

Kaneko's busy with some mindless training. Her last instructor had left her with practicing the same move, over and over and over again until it was as natural as breathing. His words, not hers. It was starting to get boring... Kaneko wouldn't complain about her sore shoulders and arms though, until she was alone in her room. Then, it's time to complain. Kaneko was told that she was getting a new instructor... but hadn't been told who, or when they would show up.

"Excuse me." Matis says as he walks over to Kaneko. "Would you happen to be Kaneko Iwamoto?"

Internally, she's thanking whatever god will listen. An excuse to stop practicing that damnable over-head, slight diagonal slash. Kaneko sheathes her long katana. "Ah uhm, yes. That's me." She faces him and gives a quick bow.

"My name is Matis Matsushita." he says. "I was told to help you with anything you need."

"Good to meet you. I g-guess the first thing I need help with... is learning what I need to work on. For the past week, I've been working on just Kendo and Kido skills." Kaneko awkwardly rubs the side of her head. "I wish I got more real experience... fighting Hollows and stuff."

"If you want real experience, you could ask the Captain for permission. I'm sure he wouldn't mind." Matis replies.

"Right uhm... Okay. Thanks." Kaneko leaves him there, to go and get permission for field training. She had expected something a little different from the new instructor... but no point worrying over it she thinks. Captain Komamura grants her the permission she wanted, to go hunting Hollows in the human world.

Matis follows after Kaneko calling out to her as he jogs over. "Hey, do you want some help?" he asks. "Sorry for being so blunt and direct."

"I... guess I could use help?" From the way he spoke earlier, Kaneko thought he was just giving her the idea, rather than wanting to actually help. "I'm leaving now though..."
